Categories group assets and can contain nested subcategories.

Create and browse categories

Search the list, or filter to a parent category. Select a row to open its details and subcategories.

Create categories before asset types; each type belongs to a category. Both are used when you create an asset.

Fill in the details
Use the field reference below. Choose a parent only if this should be a subcategory.

Select Create Asset Category
The new category becomes available in the category list and asset forms.

Field	Required	Details
Name	Required	The category name shown in lists and selectors.
Code	Required	The category's short identifying code.
Description	Optional	Additional context for the category.
Icon	Optional	An optional category icon. The upload must meet the limits shown in the form.
Parent Category	Optional	Choose an existing category to make this a subcategory.
Custodian	Optional	Assign a member responsible for the category.

Its detail page shows the category record, nested subcategories, and assigned assets. Add Sub-category starts a child category under the current one.

Open a category

Select Add Sub-category
Enter a name and code; add a description or icon if useful. The Parent Category is fixed to the category you opened.

Select Create Sub-category
The child category appears under its parent.

List column	Shows
Code	The category code.
Name	The category name; open the row for details.
Description	The category description, when present.
Links	Buttons showing the asset count and, when present, subcategory count. Each opens the corresponding filtered list.
